Free HTML to PDF converter

Convert HTML to PDF online. Add a file, confirm PDF and download it. A single file needs no account.

Converting HTML to PDF renders the markup once and freezes the result onto fixed pages, giving you a single file that prints and shares predictably. The thing to know: an .html file often only references its stylesheets, images and fonts, so anything stored outside the uploaded file may be missing from the PDF.

Transfers use HTTPS, and files converted on the free tier are deleted within 24 hours, so the result is not a long-term archive. Quality depends on the source file, so open the PDF file once before you share it.

HTML (HyperText Markup Language)

The markup language of web pages. An HTML file is plain text describing structure, and it usually points to separate stylesheets, images, fonts and scripts. It has no page size, so a browser lays the content out to fit whatever window displays it.

PDF (Portable Document Format)

A fixed-layout document format created by Adobe and standardised as ISO 32000. Each page has set dimensions, and fonts and images can be embedded in the file, so it looks the same on any device and prints predictably.

Why use indox to convert HTML to PDF?

Add files from where they live

Drop a HTML file on the box, browse for it, or import it from Dropbox, Google Drive or a link. You can add more files later, and each file gets its own result.

Watch the job run

A progress bar shows the file moving through the conversion. If you picked the wrong file, cancel and start again.

Download it or hand it on

Save the PDF file, copy a share link or convert it to another format. Free-tier output expires on its own after 24 hours.

What changes

  • Layout stops being fluid. A web page reflows to the window, while the PDF is cut into pages of one fixed size, so long sections, tables and images get split at page boundaries.
  • Everything the page needs is flattened into one file. Fonts and images that could be loaded are embedded, which is why a PDF opens the same offline and on another computer.
  • Behaviour is removed. JavaScript, video and audio players, animations, hover effects and working form submissions belong to the browser and do not exist in the finished document.
  • Text normally stays real text, so it can be selected, searched and copied, and ordinary hyperlinks usually remain clickable, although this depends on how the page was built.

What are the limits for HTML to PDF?

Size

The upload box shows the live size limit before you add a file. Signing in raises it, and paid plans raise it further.

Formats

HTML in, PDF out. Pick another output on the converter if you need a different format.

Privacy

Files are encrypted in transit over HTTPS and processed on indox infrastructure.

Deletion

Free-tier files are deleted automatically within 24 hours after the job finishes.

Limits worth knowing

  • A lone .html file carries no external assets. Stylesheets, images and web fonts referenced by relative paths are not inside it, so the result can look unstyled or lack pictures.
  • Content that a script builds after loading, common in single-page apps, may be absent or incomplete, because the saved markup does not contain it.
  • Print stylesheets (CSS @media print rules) can change the look on purpose, hiding menus or backgrounds, so the PDF may differ from what you saw on screen.
  • Page breaks are decided by the renderer. Wide layouts may be scaled down or clipped, and a heading can end up separated from its paragraph.

Who can use a HTML to PDF converter?

  • Anyone with the wrong format

Turn a HTML file into PDF when the program you need only opens PDF.

  • People sending files on

Share a PDF file when the person on the other end cannot open HTML.

  • Teams moving between tools

Convert once instead of exporting again from the app that made the file.

When to use it

  • Saving an invoice, receipt or order confirmation exported as HTML into a format that accounting software and email attachments accept.
  • Printing an article or report with predictable page breaks instead of relying on each browser's print dialog.
  • Sending a report generated by a script or template to someone who expects a document, not a web file.
  • Archiving a saved page so it still reads the same after the original site changes or disappears.

HTML to PDF FAQs

Why does my PDF look unstyled or have missing images?

Usually because the HTML file refers to files that were not uploaded with it. Stylesheets, pictures and fonts are normally separate files linked by path, and a single .html contains only those links. Assets addressed by full public web addresses have a better chance of loading than relative paths. Inlining the CSS and embedding images as data URIs avoids the problem.

Do links still work in the PDF?

Usually yes. Standard hyperlinks to web addresses are normally carried into the PDF as clickable link annotations, and the text stays selectable. Links that depend on JavaScript, such as buttons that open a menu or load more content, do nothing, and relative links that pointed to other local files will no longer resolve.

Will JavaScript, videos and forms work after converting HTML to PDF?

No, a PDF made from a web page is a static snapshot. Scripts do not run inside it, embedded video and audio appear as a still frame or an empty box at best, and form fields generally become plain drawn shapes, not fillable inputs. Whatever was visible at the moment of rendering is all that is kept.

How do I control where page breaks fall?

Page breaks are governed by CSS in the HTML itself. Properties such as break-before, break-after and break-inside (or the older page-break equivalents), plus an @page rule for size and margins, tell a renderer where pages may split. Support varies between rendering engines, so test with your own file before depending on an exact layout.

Is converting HTML to PDF the same as printing to PDF from a browser?

It is the same idea, and results are often close but not identical. Both render the markup and paginate it. A browser printing a live page has every asset already loaded and your login session, while a converted file only has what the HTML contains or can reach, and different engines space text slightly differently.

Can I turn the PDF back into HTML later?

You can, but you do not get the original markup back. A PDF records where each glyph and image sits on a page, not headings, paragraphs or the responsive layout, so a converter has to guess the structure. Keep the source HTML if you expect to edit the content again, and treat the PDF as the output copy.
