One .7z in, one .zip out
The converter unpacks your archive and packs the same files into a standard zip, so the person you send it to needs no extra program.

Convert to ZIP
Add a .7z archive and get a .zip back that opens on Windows, Mac and phones without 7-Zip. A password-protected 7z will not convert.
To convert 7z to zip, add the .7z file, keep ZIP as the output and download the result. In our test, a 180,714-byte solid 7z with 20 files in 6 folders became a 204,311-byte zip with every file, folder and name intact, about 13% larger.
Transfers use HTTPS, and files converted on the free tier are deleted after 24 hours, so the result is not a long-term archive. Quality depends on the source file, so open the ZIP file once before you share it.
7Z (7-Zip archive)
The archive format of the 7-Zip program. It compresses with LZMA by default, can pack many files into one solid block so similar files shrink together, and can encrypt contents and file names with AES-256. It has no formal specification; the LZMA SDK documentation serves as the reference, and large archives can be split into numbered .7z.001 parts.
ZIP (PKZIP archive)
A container that stores each file as its own entry, with a central directory listing names and folders at the end of the archive. Each entry is compressed on its own, usually with DEFLATE, so a single file can be pulled out without unpacking the rest.
A solid 7z test archive, 20 files in 6 folders, converted on indox.org
The converter unpacks your archive and packs the same files into a standard zip, so the person you send it to needs no extra program.
In our test the folder tree, an empty folder, a file named with accented letters and the 1 October 2026 modified time all survived the move.
A 7z with encrypted file names failed in our test, and this page says so before you upload anything. Split .7z.001 sets are not a supported input.
Drop the archive on the box or choose it from your device. Keep the original: the converter reads it and does not change it.
Check that ZIP is the output format, then start the conversion. In our test it took 4.3 seconds from the click to Completed, for a 180.7 kB file.
Save the file. The download name is a random ID ending in .zip, so rename it before you send it. Open it once to see the folders are there.
You add a .7z and take away a .zip with the same files, ready for people, portals and mail filters that only accept zip. The page says up front what it cannot do, so you know before you upload whether your archive qualifies.

The upload box shows the live size limit before you add a file. Signing in raises it; a paid plan does not change it.
7Z in, ZIP out. Pick another output on the converter if you need a different format.
Files are encrypted in transit over HTTPS and processed on indox infrastructure.
Free-tier files are kept for 24 hours after the job finishes, then deleted automatically.
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The status turns red Failed | WhyThe 7z is encrypted, corrupt or too large to unpack here | What to doExtract it with 7-Zip using your password, zip the files, or try again with a smaller archive |
| Nothing happens with a .7z.001 file | WhySplit parts are not a supported input | What to doJoin the parts into one .7z with 7-Zip or PeaZip, then add that file |
| The zip is bigger than the 7z | WhyZip compresses each file alone, while 7z can use one solid block | What to doExpected. Keep the 7z for storage and use the zip for sharing |
| The file has a strange name | WhyThe download name is a random ID | What to doRename it to .zip with a name you choose |
| Need an archive for a Linux tool | WhyZip is not the usual format there | What to doTry 7z to TAR instead |

A .7z often cannot be opened by a client, a relative or a school computer. A zip opens with the tools already on Windows, macOS and most phones.
Work laptops and shared machines often block installs. The conversion runs in the browser, so you can unpack a 7z download without adding an app.
Some upload forms and mail filters list .zip only. Converting gives you a real zip, which a renamed file does not.
A set of project folders received as .7z can be turned into zips with the folder layout kept, so everyone opens them the same way.

No tool matches that search.
Open the converter, add your .7z file, keep ZIP as the output and download the result. You do not need 7-Zip or any other program.
In our test, yes. The folder tree, an empty folder and a file name with accented letters were all preserved, and the modified time of 1 October 2026 stayed the same. The top-level folder also stays.
A 7z can pack all files into one solid LZMA2 block, so similar files shrink together. A zip compresses each file alone. In our test the 7z was 180,714 bytes and the zip 204,311 bytes, about 13% more. The gap depends on content, and half of our sample was random PNG data that no method can shrink.
Not here. There is no password field. In our test, a 7z with encrypted contents and file names failed after about 3 seconds with no zip made. Extract it with 7-Zip using your password, then zip the files.
Parts of a multi-volume archive are not a supported input, and we did not test them. Put all the parts in one folder, open the .001 file in 7-Zip or PeaZip to extract or join them, then add the result.
The server caps the number of files and the unpacked size of an archive, and a very large one can be refused. We saw no limit text and no paywall in our test with a 180 kB file, so we cannot give you a number.
The converter runs in a browser, so nothing needs installing. We ran our test in a desktop browser and did not test a phone, so try it with a small file first.
Zipping a .7z file gives a zip that holds one .7z inside, so the recipient still needs 7-Zip. Converting unpacks the files and packs them as zip entries instead.
In our test, yes. We checked the sha256 of all 20 files after unzipping and they matched the originals.
