I-485 Supp. A
Supplement A to Form I-485, Adjustment of Status Under Section 245(i)
Supplement A to Form I-485, Adjustment of Status Under Section 245(i), gives USCIS additional information from a person asking to adjust status to lawful permanent resident under section 245(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The instructions say it is for people disqualified from adjusting under INA section 245(a) who may be eligible under section 245(i).
The instructions also say status cannot be adjusted based on Supplement A alone. It goes with Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, filed at the same time or still pending, together with eligibility for a visa in a family-based, employment-based, special immigrant or Diversity Visa category.
The USCIS page lists edition 09/18/26 for Supplement A. It also carries an alert that USCIS will only accept the 09/18/26 edition of Form I-485 if it is postmarked or electronically submitted on or after Sept. 18, 2026, and will reject the 01/20/25 and 09/04/26 editions of Form I-485 submitted on or after that date.

Current legal name, U.S. mailing address, A-Number, USCIS online account number, date of birth, country of birth and country of citizenship or nationality.
One box from 1.a. to 1.e. for the basis of section 245(i) eligibility, the receipt number of the qualifying petition, the principal beneficiary's name and A-Number, and the immigrant category chosen on Form I-485.

Ten boxes, 1.a. to 1.j., for the bars that apply, such as entry without admission or parole, employment without authorization, a lapse in lawful status, or admission under the Visa Waiver Program.

Daytime and mobile phone numbers, email address, the certification under penalty of perjury and the applicant's signature.
Name, organization, contact details, certification and signature for anyone who interpreted or prepared the supplement.
Type or print in black ink. Write N/A where a question does not apply and None for a zero. On a printed copy, keep the edition date and page numbers visible, with all pages from the same edition.
The form says to select only one box in Item 1. For a qualifying immigrant petition, enter its receipt number in Item 2 if available. The instructions say a labor certification application does not need Item 2.
The instructions say Item 5 takes the full title of the immigrant category selected in Part 2, Item 3 of Form I-485.
Part 3 says to select all applicable boxes among the ten listed bars to adjustment.
The instructions list proof of the qualifying petition or application, such as Form I-797 or Form ETA-750, that it was properly filed and approvable when filed, any family relationship, and physical presence on December 21, 2000 for filings on or after January 15, 1998.
A stamped or typewritten name is not accepted, and the instructions say an unsigned Supplement A is rejected. This page lets you fill the form online free, then print it for signature.
You get the real form, filled in a browser tab, with nothing standing between you and the finished PDF.
The USCIS page lists two options: by mail, together with Form I-485 at the address on the Direct Filing Addresses for Form I-485 page, or online through a USCIS online account.
If a Form I-485 with a receipt number beginning with IOE is pending, the page says Supplement A may be filed online by itself, with no other forms except Form G-28 when an attorney or accredited representative files.
The USCIS page points to its Fee Schedule page, and the instructions point to Form G-1055. Fees can change, so check them on the day you file. The instructions say USCIS rejects a Supplement A without the correct filing fee.
The page's filing tip says to include a copy of the Form I-797 receipt notice for a Form I-485 that is still pending.
The instructions list Form I-130, Form I-140, Form I-360, Form I-526 and Form ETA-750, Parts A and B, if properly filed and approvable when filed on or before April 30, 2001.
The instructions say a person in proceedings in Immigration Court files the supplement with the appropriate Immigration Court and also submits a copy to USCIS.

Item 1.a. of Part 2 covers a principal beneficiary of an immigrant petition or permanent labor certification application filed on or before January 14, 1998, which the instructions say was approvable when filed.
Item 1.b. covers a principal beneficiary of a petition or application filed from January 15, 1998, through April 30, 2001, who was physically present in the United States on December 21, 2000.
Items 1.c. and 1.d. cover a derivative beneficiary of a qualifying petition or application in the same two filing windows. For the later window, the instructions look at the principal beneficiary's physical presence on December 21, 2000.
Item 1.e. covers a current spouse, or a child unmarried and under 21, applying to accompany or follow-to-join a principal or derivative beneficiary. The instructions list when that Form I-485 is filed relative to the principal applicant's.
The instructions say that if none of the listed bars to adjustment apply, or an exemption does, there is no need to adjust under section 245(i) and Supplement A should not be filed.

No tool matches that search.
The instructions say status cannot be adjusted on Supplement A alone. It is filed with Form I-485 or while an earlier one is pending. The USCIS page says it may be filed online by itself when a Form I-485 with an IOE receipt number is pending.
The instructions say an immigrant petition was properly filed if the petitioner signed it, paid the correct fee, and it was received by INS on or before April 30, 2001, or mailed with a postmark on or before that date.
The instructions say it applies to petitions or applications filed on or after January 15, 1998. They list examples such as Form I-94, a state driver's license, tax records, school records, leases and utility bills, and say a personal affidavit needs other supporting documents with it.
The USCIS page alert says USCIS will only accept the 09/18/26 edition of Form I-485 if postmarked or electronically submitted on or after Sept. 18, 2026, and lists edition 09/18/26 for Supplement A.
USCIS fees change, so this page does not list one. The Supplement A page links to the USCIS Fee Schedule, and the instructions point to Form G-1055.
