Application for IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (Spanish Version)
Form W-7 (sp) is the Spanish version of Form W-7, Application for IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. The one-page PDF is titled "Solicitud de Número de Identificación Personal del Contribuyente del Servicio de Impuestos Internos" and is dated December 2024 ("Rev. diciembre de 2024", Rev. 12-2024), the same revision as the English form. It points to www.irs.gov/FormW7SP for instructions.
The Spanish edition also sets the language of the IRS replies. The English Instructions for Form W-7 say that after a Form W-7 is submitted, all future ITIN notices and correspondence are in English, and that applicants who prefer them in Spanish submit Form W-7(SP).
An ITIN is a nine-digit number the IRS issues to people who need a U.S. taxpayer identification number for federal tax purposes but do not have, and are not eligible to get, a Social Security number (SSN). The form says the ITIN is only for U.S. federal tax purposes and not to file it if you have, or are eligible for, an SSN. It is used both to apply for a new ITIN and to renew one. The English edition, Form W-7, has its own page. You can fill out this Spanish PDF free in your browser on this page and download it without an account.

A new ITIN or a renewal, then one reason box. The form says boxes b to g need a U.S. federal tax return with the form unless an exception applies. Box a, and box f with an exception, also need box h.
First, middle and last name, and the name at birth if it is different.
The applicant's mailing address and the foreign address abroad. The form says not to enter a P.O. box number on line 3.
Date of birth as month, day and year, country of birth, an optional city and state or province, and a male or female box.
Citizenship, foreign tax ID, U.S. visa, identity documents with the date of arrival in the United States, any earlier ITIN or IRSN, and a college, university or company with the length of stay.
Signature under penalty of perjury with date and phone, a delegate's name and relationship, and a section for the acceptance agent only. Signing lets the IRS share information with the acceptance agent.
Check a new ITIN or a renewal, then one reason box. For box d, enter the relationship. For boxes d and e, enter the U.S. citizen's or resident alien's name and SSN or ITIN. For boxes a and f, enter the treaty country and article number.
Enter the legal name as on the identity documents, the birth name if different, the mailing address and the foreign address. The instructions say to enter N/A in any section that does not apply instead of leaving it blank.
Enter the date of birth, country of birth and sex, the country or countries of citizenship, any foreign tax ID number, and the U.S. visa type, number and expiration date.
Check the type of the first identity document and enter who issued it, its number, expiration date and the date of arrival in the United States. The instructions say other documents go on a separate sheet.
Answer whether an ITIN or IRSN was ever issued and, if yes, enter it with the name it was issued under. Box f applicants enter the school, city and state, and length of stay.
The applicant signs and dates, or a delegate signs and checks parent, power of attorney or legal guardian. The form says to keep a copy.
You get the real form, filled in a browser tab, with nothing standing between you and the finished PDF.
The instructions say a first application goes with the original tax return the ITIN is needed for, with Form W-7 on the front, plus original or certified identity and foreign status documents.
The instructions give Internal Revenue Service, ITIN Operation, P.O. Box 149342, Austin, TX 78714-9342, and say not to use the mailing address in the tax return instructions.
Designated IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers verify documents by appointment, made by calling 844-545-5640.
The instructions say an Acceptance Agent can help complete and file the form, and a Certifying Acceptance Agent can verify some documents and return them right away.
The instructions say to allow 7 weeks, or 9 to 11 weeks from January 15 through April 30 or when filing from overseas.
The instructions say Form W-7 brings later ITIN notices in English, and Form W-7(SP) brings them in Spanish.

Box a is for a nonresident alien who needs an ITIN to claim a tax treaty benefit. Box b is for a nonresident alien filing a U.S. federal tax return.
Box c is for a U.S. resident alien, based on days present in the United States, who files a U.S. federal tax return.
Boxes d and e cover a dependent or spouse of a U.S. citizen or resident alien, and box g a dependent or spouse of a nonresident alien with a U.S. visa. The instructions say spouses and dependents qualify only when claimed for an allowable tax benefit or filing their own return.
