Trump Account Election(s)
Form 4547 is used for Trump account elections. The IRS About page says taxpayers use it for elections to open an initial Trump account and to elect to request a one-time $1,000 pilot program contribution. The instructions describe a Trump account as a type of traditional individual retirement account (IRA) established by an authorized individual for the exclusive benefit of the child listed in Part II, who becomes the owner of the account.
The form says that for each eligible child for whom an account is opened, Parts I, II and IV are completed, and that the box in Part III, line 7 is checked for each child eligible to receive the $1,000 Pilot Program Contribution. The person listed in Part I becomes the responsible party for the account. The instructions say the form can be filed at any time, including with an income tax return.
This page has the December 2025 edition. The PDF can be filled out free in the browser on this page and downloaded without an account.

Consent for the IRS, Treasury and their agents to create and maintain the account and disclose that it exists, the signature and date, and a Paid Preparer Use Only section.
Enter your name and SSN as they appear on your social security card. The instructions say a nonresident or resident alien without an SSN who is not eligible for one enters an ITIN. Use a P.O. box only if mail is not delivered to the street address.
Enter each child's name and SSN to match the child's social security card, the date of birth and the relationship, such as ward, son, daughter, brother, sister or grandchild. Check the box if the child lives at the Part I address.

The instructions say to attach as many copies of Form 4547 as are needed to give the requested information for each child.
Check the box for each child you are authorized to open the account for. The instructions say that when a child already has an open account and only the pilot program contribution is elected, Part II is completed except line 6, plus Part III.
The instructions say to check it for a child who is anticipated to be the filer's qualifying child, was born after December 31, 2024, and before January 1, 2029, is a U.S. citizen with a valid SSN, and has had no prior pilot program election processed.
Sign and date the form. The instructions say a paper Form 4547 needs a handwritten signature, and a representative who signs needs an attached power of attorney, such as Form 2848, that authorizes signing Form 4547.
You get the real form, filled in a browser tab, with nothing standing between you and the finished PDF.
The instructions say Form 4547 can be filed at any time, including at the same time as the income tax return.
The instructions name filing Form 4547 with the current-year e-filed tax return as the fastest way. For an election after the return is filed, such as after a birth, they point to trumpaccounts.gov.
The instructions say to mail it to the address at IRS.gov/PaperReturns for the return of the election year, using the address for those requesting a refund or not enclosing a check or money order.
The instructions say not to attach Form 4547 to Form 1040-X, and not to amend Form 1040, 1040-SR or 1040-NR to attach it.
The instructions say Treasury or its agent sends activation information starting in May 2026, and no pilot program contribution is deposited earlier than July 4, 2026.

To only open an initial account, the instructions list the authorized individual as a legal guardian, parent, adult sibling or grandparent of the child, in that order of priority.
The instructions say an adult sibling making the election represents that neither a legal guardian nor a parent of the child was available to make it.
For this election, the instructions say the authorized individual is one who anticipates the child will be his or her qualifying child for the tax year in which the election is made.
The child in Part II owns the account. The instructions list a child under age 18 at the end of the election year, with an SSN issued before the election and no earlier Trump account election.
The instructions say that if Form 4547 is filed by a paid preparer, the paid preparer may complete the Paid Preparer Use Only section.
