Form 13588: Native Americans and the Earned Income Credit

Form 13588, Native Americans and the Earned Income Credit, is a one page IRS list of alternative documentation. It opens: "If the documents requested on Form 886-H-EIC are not available, refer to the list below for alternative documentation."

The list has nine items, from a statement from the Indian Health Services Business offices and copies of Tribal Enrollment Records to a BIA Home site Lease or Allotment, a HUD Housing Assignment Document, TANF records and a Food Stamp application. When none of those is available, the form points to the local Department of Social Welfare or Department of Social Services for a signed or approved form showing the child's residence, and names two examples of local forms.

The top of the form has spaces for the taxpayer name, taxpayer identification number and tax year. You can fill them out free in your browser on this page and download the result without an account.
